  1. Passive Perfect: "sein" + past participle + "worden"

The passive perfect tense in German is formed by using the auxiliary verb "sein" (to be) in combination with the past participle of the main verb, followed by "worden" (the past perfect of the verb "werden", which means "to become").

German

English

Das Buch wurde von mir gelesen.

The book was read by me.

Passive Perfect: "sein" + past participle + "worden"

In the passive voice, it's not the subject who acts but rather the thing or person that something happens to. The action is the relevant part, and the agent of the action is often left out.

We form the passive with the auxiliary werden and the past participle of the main verb.

To form the passive in the perfect tense, we use the construction:

  • conjugation of the auxiliary "sein" + past participle of main verb + "worden"

Active Voice:

German

English

Er hat das Motorrad repariert.

He repaired the bike.

Passive Voice:

German

English

Das Motorad ist repariert worden.

The motorcycle has been repaired.

Note: The past participle of "worden" is "geworden," but the "ge" is omitted when forming the passive perfect.
